Team Activation in Full

“Trust is precious especially when it comes to donations or the act of CSR.” said our Founder Victoria and our true gratitude goes to Lloyd’s for backing our purpose.  United by a shared belief of breaking the cycle of poverty through the power of education, Lloyd’s Asia has been proudly supporting PeopleStories ever since 2018.

The partnership started with a simple act of kindness where Lloyd’s facilitated an employee giving charity event called “Treats for Good”, with PeopleStories selling treats at their office for funding.   Vic  remarkably remembered the details and shares, “2 volunteers and I put 3 tables together as a booth with treats and information about PeopleStories at the Lloyd’s Asia office at CapitaGreen Singapore.  That was our first ever Treats for Good charity event and we sold 250 treats that day to all the generous employees of Lloyd’s and their syndicates.”

‘Serving the community in need’ ties Lloyd’s and us at PeopleStories strongly together.  In late 2021, Lloyd’s generously supported not only our School for Life scholarship program but kick started our Digital School by donating the 30 laptops.

Earlier this year, Jessica Tamman, Global Community Engagement Lead from Lloyd’s London, shared with Vic, “We’d love to bring together all our colleagues to join a PeopleStories virtual session, as part of our activation week.”  This sparked so many ideas and Vic shared, “Our team really would love to bring the impact we make together in rural Cambodia to the Llolyd’s teams.  Immediately, we wanted to involve the teachers and children we support to this event.”
Last week, Lloyd’s teams joined Vic and the children in rural Cambodia for a big dose of inspiration, some fun and got closer to the impact that we are making together. The virtual event includes some traditional Cambodian dance performance, progress updates on our work especially how we are using Lloyd’s donation, and most importantly (and fun) is the Trivia Game which everyone enjoyed so much!

Thomas Haddrill, Lloyd’s Interim CEO, Singapore, and Head of Market Development, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, commented, “Our colleagues across the Asia Pacific region felt humbled and inspired during the session to see how our support help on the ground over there in Cambodia. A wonderful opportunity to engage with the children directly as well. We look forward to continuing to work with PeopleStories and help the rural Cambodian community together.”

Our children thoroughly enjoyed their first ever online event and their excitement filled the entire classroom. Certainly, having a chance to play a trivia game is always their favourite time!   Veasna from our local team enthused , “We worked with teacher Socheata from Phum Ou primary school, who organised a traditional dance with 6 children as part of the agenda.  These children were so proud to be able to show off their dance moves in front of a group of international audience.”

The children declared proudly, “We love our Cambodian traditional dance as it is a beautiful dance.” They were grateful that Teacher Socheata had taught them the dance.

Veasna added, “I witnessed their (the children’s) curiosity during the online event.  You know, this is the first time we have ever had an online event at the school!  These children are studying at grade 5 and they are so curious about the technology and seeing foreigners on the big screen.”

The lack of internet connectivity in the village has almost caused the event to come to a
naught. Fortunately, Vic has brought along a pocket WIFI together with laptop, overhead projector and a large screen. That saved the day!
Vic closed the event by sharing, “We rise by lifting others. It is time to gift those who need it most.” which sums beautifully our partnership with Lloyd’s and what it means to the children in rural Cambodia.

Want to experience the uplifting feeling while giving a helping hand? Join Lloyd’s to create impact where it matters through CSR.
