People of Siem Reap

In 2017, I embarked on my volunteering experiences in Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.

Along my journey, I have encountered many beautiful people and learned about their stories.

People of Siem Reap is my debut project of PeopleStories.

I never gave up on what I can do in life!

"People around here call me 'dot' which means 'legless'.  I didn't attend much of school because my parents were poor farmers.  They simply didn't believe in education and I wasn't supported by them.  At the age of 28, I stepped on some land
mine while farming in the field at home.  Sadly, I lost both of my legs.  However, I never gave up on what I can do in life!  I am 43 years old now and I make wood cravings for people as well as a shop in the city,  They resell my cravings to the tourists and this helps supporting my family.  My income is very irregular and can only get a few dollars sometimes.  I also fix bicycles for people in the village.  In fact, I have a '3-wheel' motorbike that I use it to commute to and from the city - all on my own!  My 2 elder sons and daughter all stopped school very young as to help the family.  They all work at construction sites now.  My 2 other younger sons are still at school and I hope to support them to finish school.  If I have lots of money, I would send my children to a university and also build an art school for my village. I don't have any dream as I never went to school."
