PeopleStories Foundation believes it’s the journey that matters, not just the destination. That is why it is important to us to make sure that each and every one of our students are celebrated for their efforts, not only their achievements.

At the end of each school year, we celebrate to remind the teachers, students, parents and even ourselves, how far these children have come and how much more potential they have.  This has always been a special moment for me, as I am foruntate enough to witness the growth of the children, teachers and the schools.

Principal Nika Bin started off the ceremony at Chea Smonn Secondary school last week with an inspiring speech, thanking  teachers and parents for prioritising their children’s education.

I then shared an encouraging message about the importance of education and what it can do to help not only their families but  also for Cambodia to prosper.

Mr Veasna, our local volunteer, also shared his own struggles in his education journey and ultimately his hope for what education could do for Cambodia as a country.
A special tribute was also made to the Top Performers.  Together with a few teachers, Nika and Victoria got a little teary as they acknowledged what it must have cost the students and their families to always put school first.

A similar ceremony was also held at Chea Smonn Primary school this week.  Principal Yam gave an incredible speech to show her appreciation to all students, parents and teachers for their great support throughout the school year.

Mr Veasna (our local volunteer) was also there to speak a few words with the younger students and encouraged them to keep an open-mind for new knowledge.  As a father of 2 young boys, Mr. Veasna knows well what it means to motivate the younger generation to focus on learning and help them complete school.

Each Top Performer received a certificate with their name and their achievement written clearly, and together with some of the much needed school supplies.  As these Top Performers got called "on stage" one by one, we could clearly see the pride beaming in not just their own eyes, but the eyes of each and every person at the ceremony.

The ceremonies all ended with an informal get together with students and teachers chatting along.  At times, we moved to the rhythm of some background music as we were reminded of how little we actually need to be happy. Some children laughing coyly,  others boisterously, and I think to myself- does it get any better than this?

You can also help these children in rural Cambodia happy.  Why not consider sponsor a child for their education or become one of our incredible volunteers?
